RSD, Rapid Screening Device

The RSD is a safety calorimeter that can screen many samples simultaneously to evaluate the risks in handling, processing and storing these potentially hazardous materials.

The RSD is a robust safety calorimeter designed to quickly screen up to six samples simultaneously (one of the samples is normally a reference sample). It uses temperature ramp methods with isothermal soak options to quickly obtain temperature, pressure and heat of reaction data. A sealed system makes the pressure data very accurate. Compounds showing hazardous tendencies can afterwards be tested thoroughly in the ARC™ and with other methods. This combination gives optimal throughput and safety. The RSD can also operate in an extra high accuracy mode by reducing the number of samples and rate.

Examples of sample containers are glass "HPLC"
vials, metal "tube" sample holders and spherical
ARC bombs. The use of sealed metal sample cells
with burst disk configuration makes cell rupture
unlikely. In the event of a sample release, cleaning
up is quick and easy. The sample cells are cheap
and disposable and the test chamber robust.

Options: sub-ambient cooling, mixing, venting (post testing venting of pressure lines) and dosing.
